Seville, Sanlúcar and Coria · Days 6, 7 and 4

Not a show. A room.

Flamenco

Three times on this trip you are in the room where it happens, and more than once you are expected to join in.

In Seville, at Tablao Lola de los Reyes: an intimate and authentic flamenco experience, where the singing, the guitar and the dance are experienced at very close range.

In Sanlúcar de Barrameda, at the El Rocío brotherhood, it arrives as a zambomba — the Christmas form of flamenco, sung around a drum, and still how Andalusian families see the season out.

And at Finca Las Barrancas, the day on the Portuguese border closes with a flamenco party in which the whole group takes part. Nobody watches from a seat.
